Transmission Noise problem of the 2013 Ford Explorer 1
Your transmission is a remarkable contraption. Somehow, it can shift your car from gear to gear, knowing how fast you need to go and how quickly you need to get there. What goes on inside is a mystery to most. Unless your thirst for automotive knowledge borders on compulsive, you can leave it a mystery. I recently acquired an 03 Explorer (V6) with optional 4WD. I know these trucks are prone to transmission problems, and I need a little help. When driving, the transmission seems to shift smooth and properly. No issues there. When it is parked, and I go into gear from either P or N, I get a clunk as it's going in.
Power transfer unit 'ptu' began leaking spontaneously; looks like leaking motor oil on the ground. Caused grinding noise and dangerous transmission issues when driving. Solution was replacement of the ptu which cost $1650 by Ford service.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2014 Ford Explorer 3
'driver side door ajar' light continues to come on each time I start the car. I have to open and shut the door to get it to turn off. That occurred for one month. Now the light will not turn off and the 'transmission is not in park' light turns on while I am driving. In addition, the dome lights will not go off when I park the car unless I constantly adjust the light dial and eventually the dome light will go off when the doors are locked (30 minutes to get it off the other night). Regarding the rear transmission noise. Over 50 percent of the time when I am backing out of a parking spot, I hear a clunking sound as though I struck an object only to find that nothing is behind me. Finally, when I enter my car and start it, I hear a loud popping sound in the front windshield like the windshield glass is cracking. No idea what that may be.

While driving the vehicle started to make a grinding noise coming from the front area. Pull over and tow to dealer . The transmission pto had a internal failure. The car onle has 51k miles normal driving. I search on the internet and found that Ford had several issues with this part breaking in low time. This could be a safety hazard.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer 9
I bought this vehicle used through a certified Ford dealership where my father works and I had bought all my previous cars in April 2012. It only had one previous owner, no major history and was completely upgraded by the previous owner. I had it completely checked out, had the tranny flushed, twice, and all seemed okay. No warranty of any kind was available due to Ford policy. . . Supposedly. I moved to texas in June of 2012 and it did okay. Then one day, in September, I had my husband and children in the SUV and all of sudden it just started acting strange, wouldn't speed up, the rpm's would go crazy, the noise sounded horrible and then it just stopped moving. Luckily we were just heading out of town and not yet on the major highway. We got it moved to a service station and had to call our insurance company to tow our vehicle to a Ford dealership. We had to wait more than an hour for a ride home. We were now without a vehicle in a new state. I was told that the only fix was to replace the transmission. I put $4000 down on this vehicle, financed the rest and spent the rest of our savings to move from ne to TX. I had no extra cash to spend $4000 to fix it. I was told to let the bank take it and get another vehicle. I had to come up with $1000 down and get a lower quality vehicle and have the bank take it back. They sold it at auction for only $4000 so we still owe $13000! I had the vehicle for only 5 months and because of a Ford problem I owe $13000?!?!?! this is not right. I have been a loyal Ford girl and Ford mechanic's daughter my entire life and this is what I get?! I want to know what can be done or what Ford will do about this. I'm broke and my credit destroyed because of this. I don't like how everyone sues people but I am ready to sue! ugh!! I just want answers and results!!!!!!!.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Ford Explorer 10
While backing up into my driveway, the transmission made a load noise. The vehicle stopped moving. The vehicle can not go into reverse. I barely got the vehicle in the driveway moving it forward when another load noise occurred and the vehicle stopped moving. Some owners have reported that the reverse band in the transmission fails causing this condition. Through reading on your own website, there are other 2000 Ford Explorer owners (exploder as Ford mechanics call them!!!!) with the same issue. This is the second time the vehicle will need the transmission replaced. The first time, it was covered under warranty.

Now at 136,000 and the truck will not move at all. Dealer ship want's another $3,306. 00 to fix it again. The rear end is making a loud wine noise.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2004 Ford Explorer 13
I have a 2004 Ford Explorer and it recently started making a rumbling noise. I brought it to my mechanic and he looked at it and said it was my transmission. He also said that it was an extremly common problem for 2004 Explorers. If you google '2004 Explorer problems' and click on any of the links the first problem is transmission issues. I have owned this car since it was new in 2004 and have not abused the car. For a 2004 car with only 75000 miles on it to have a transmission go it is a problem. I have been quoted $3000 to fix this problem the fix being a new transmission. When Ford knows about this problem they should do something about it.
Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 14
I was driving and my od light started flashing. A few miles later my cars rpms went up and my car slowed down, causing my to quickly pull over to the side of the road to avoid being rear ended. I tried to drive it to the store a few days later and I got about 1/4 of a mile down the road when I heard a loud noise and the car did the same thing. I have my car sitting in the drive way waiting to get it into be looked at. Since this is the second time that this has happened in under two years, I know that the transmission is having issues and more than likely I will have to have it replaced.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 16
I own a 2002 Ford Explorer with 59,000 miles on it. My SUV has never been used for towing or unusual fast driving. The automatic transmission now randomly allows for unusually high rpms before changing gears. This resulted several times in rear wheel slipping and loss of control of the vehicle. When making a u-turn, the rear end of the car spun out into an unintended adjacent lane and nearly caused an accident. Also, a simple left turn onto a two lane road resulted in the rear end of the car going off of the road. The transmission is now making noises and changing gears slowly. From researching online, it is apparent that this issue has been reported thousands of times with the 2002 Ford Explorer. Estimated costs to repair design flaw range from $2700 to $4000.

My od light starting blinking. Then I started hearing a clicking noise. Car shuttered numerous days, then would not go any faster then 25 mph. Had to get the transmission completely rebuilt. Had 92,000 mile on it. Evidently Ford IA aware of this problem and will do nothing.

Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 20
Noticed a grinding and whining noise coming from right side of my 2002 Ford XLT Explorer. Also thought that I needed a new exhaust the car was making such loud noise. Went to 2 different garages for pricing, I needed both front and rear bearings replaced actually the front bearing was about to fall off both garages stated. Also the loud noise from my exhaust it was missing one bolt to the cover, covering the exhaust and or catalytic converter. Also 8months prior the cars transmission was replaced. All of this expensive and costly repairs happened at 79,000 miles. This is a very dangerous vehicle and reading all of the other complaints this problem needs to be considered for recalls from Ford. My family is very important to me and I use this car to travel and transport my family. I am very concerned and Fords needs to investigate the problems arising with the 2002 Ford XLT Explorer problems and fix them. So far I have invested $5500 into this car I would not even get this for a trade in value. Please consider my complaint and the many others very important. Thank you.
Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 21
Transmission making a horrible whining noise in both the front and back. From all that I have read the transmission and rear end is going to have to be overhauled. With as many complaints as there are on this vehicle Ford really needs to do a recall and fix this problem before there is a serious accident. They are aware of this but choose not to do anything until the government forces them to do something.
Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 22
Traveling on interstate when loud noise came from the transmission. Rpm's went up drastically. Tranny light came on. When starting and stopping the truck the transmission would make a horrible metal sound. Have not driven it for 1 month due to having to go get a loan to pay for the repairs. Took to aamco which stated today that the tranny needs to be totally overhauled at $2400.

2003 Explorer eddie bauer 4. 6l v-8 awd, transmission failed during morning commute. I hear noise, the car lost speed, and 'o/d off' was flashing. I could barely merge the car to the far right lane and manage to get the car to the office.
Transmission Noise problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer 24
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer. While driving 30 mph, the contact heard a whining noise coming from the vehicle. The noise becomes louder as the vehicle travels faster. The whining appears to be coming from the rear suspension. The failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 144,800. Updated 04/14/08. The consumer stated the transmission was replaced at no charge by Ford at 55,000 miles due to a defect. The 4-wheel drive makes excessive noise when in gear. Updated.
Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 25
The transmission in my 2002 Ford Explorer began to slip at 57,000 miles. From first gear into second it would rev high and then with a clunk and a grinding noise reluctantly go into second gear.

Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer 1
From park, delay from 1 to 7 seconds for engagement for reverse (automatic trans), worse in warm weather. Serious safety issue, as you may press on gas thinking you're in reverse, and then accelerate!! heard 1st hand from Ford dealer this is well known, and sometimes severe. Something with solenoid pack? happens often!.

Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2007 Ford Explorer 3
We are original owners. Bought new in 2007 with ext warranty. Car with <than 60k mls, never in an accident, taken care of. 01/31/2016 sun while driving approx 10 mph on a side street it lost power and shutoff without warning. Restarted after a few min. On 02/01 mon 7:00 am the same happened on the highway at approx 45 mph. My husband was able to steer the rolling car off to the shoulder. After 15 min restarted and took it straight to the dealer. Wrench light was on. Promised to have it ready in 4 hrs. At 4:00 pm hasn't been looked at yet. At 6:00 pm it was allegedly looked at by 2 techs and determined it's a transmission issue and we were now in line for a transmission specialist with 14 cars ahead of us (by itself evidence that there is a transmission issue in Fords). On thur 02/04 (4th day) got a call at 6:pm that there is a short inside of the transmission and they would order the part and have it fixed the next day. $1,400 to fix. I called Ford customer service and opened a case as transmission complaints are frequent. We were lucky that there wasn't a semi behind my husband on the highway on mon. On fri 02/05 I'm told the part wasn't ordered on thur because of 4:00 pm cutoff. He said it was being ordered on fri and fixed on sat. On sat 02/06 I'm told they never have transmission mechanics working on sat and it will be fixed on mon. Noon on mon I'm told Ford offers no remedy for cars older than 6 yrs and case closed. Status of repair - he would check if the part came in when he gets back from lunch. A week without a car, no information, part maybe ordered, car not fixed and Ford doesn't care if we die on the road and we have to pay for a faulty solenoid and non-reusable parts that need to be removed in order to fix this. For the last 15 years bought 4 new Fords with ext warranty (not used). Ford couldn't care less about customers or their safety. No more Fords!!.

Started with flashing of light went to check engine light code p0775 transmission control solenoid b. . . . From what I'm finding out this is just a symptom of the bigger problem the servo bore leaking and needing a brass sleeve insert fix. . . I think it's total crap I have to pay for a kit and find someone who will follow the proper refit procedures and pay them when Ford is well aware of this issue and should be forced into a recall retro fit. . . I am a 50 yr old disabled woman who can't afford to fix a problem the manufacturer should be dealing with. . . . The transmission is hazardous and can disengage from loss of pressure while driving. . .

Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 5
The o/d light has started flashing and my check engine light came on, it is not shifting when it should be, going up to 5000 rpms, I have to take my foot off the pedal to try and get it to shift into 3rd. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. After doing a thorough search, I have found a ridiculous amount of complaints identical to mine, most with similar mileage (mine is at 162,000), with the problem being either the solenoid pack or the o/d servo. Some are lucky and have this replaced first, but others end up having to rebuild/replace the tranny. That is an expensive fix for what seems to be a very common problem, too expensive for most people who drive a vehicle that is this old. I am a single mother of two small children, I do not have the money to fix this or buy another vehicle.

Timing chain problems; back chain 'plastic' tensor broke and affected critically entire engine. Many people with the same problem. Transmission solenoid problems; shift rough from 1st to 2nd. Put new solenoid block, problem still there. Ford does not know what the problem is. Many people with the same problem.

Starting date is approximate and mileage. When driving vehicle you could feel a jerk in the transmission when it was shifting. And on several occasions, it felt like you had been hit in the rear by another vehicle. We felt it was becoming a safety issue and not safe to drive the vehicle. We took it to a transmission center and they replaced a sleeve and solenoid block April 8, 2014. No problems since. Have been reading other people have and similar problems.

The failure and current mileage was 179,000.
Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2006 Ford Explorer 11
Three familiar issues: * transmission slams!!! into reverse * when approaching a stop light/sign the transmission downshifts with a thump. * vehicle will surge forward shortly after placing in drive (under 15 mph). It will hesitate back and forth about 3 or 4 times. Had it at a dealership to reflash/reprogram in November 2013. Paid $100 for the test and was told the solenoid body failed. I declined the offer of a $937 plus tax repair bill. Ford should fix this issue at no cost to their customers. Transmission issues in a vehicle with only 54,000 miles does not speak to Ford's commitment to quality. These complaints have been noted for years. Needless to say the above three issues persist.
Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2005 Ford Explorer 12
On September 26, 2013, I took my 2005 Ford Explorer to the Ford dealer (freeway Ford in bloomington, mn) because I was having problems when I put the vehicle into reverse. At times it hesitates to go into reverse and then clunks into the gear. This has been happening for about 1 year. The diagnosis was of course my transmission solenoid. I cant afford to have my vehicle repaired at the cost of $1,300 plus taxes and I don't feel safe driving my Explorer in this condition, but I have no choice at this point. I went online to carcomplaints. Com and found 94 complaints with the same issues on the 2005 Ford Explorers. In one of the complaints sent to carcomplaints. Com - a woman wrote that she sent a complaint letter to the dept of consumer affairs about the issues with the 2005 Ford explores, they get back to her to tell her that the Ford dealer will put the repair under some type of warranty program and just charge me $100 bucks to replace the solenoid. This seems to be a defect in the Ford Explorers made in 2005, so why have the vehicles not been recalled and why should I have to be responsible for the repair cost? jp.

My 2005 Ford has been in the dealership service center 3 different timesfor the same problem with the transmission. First time 2006 second 2010 this 2013. I'm told the solenoid pac the od bands are to blame all three times. I'm getting very frustrated with this car and Ford motor companies inability to take care of this problem or to atleast except some responsibility for this. With this last failure they have given me to options rebuild again or put in a new transmission. Why would I want to replace a crappy transmission with a new crappy transmission. Is their any help with this?.

Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2002 Ford Explorer 17
Vehicle transmission has suddenly quit at only 120,000 miles. Because of a code p0775 'pressure control solenoid'. Shopped the fix (which all repair shops say is very common on early 2000 Ford's) and it will need a $2500 rebuild. Did some online research and found more complaints on this than I can account for. I contacted Ford customer support line and was transferred to my local dealer. Local dealer said I fall outside of any customer appreciation programs and there is nothing they can do than fix it for me for $3200. With the amount of complaints on this issue along with the cracked tailgate that I see on all Ford Explorers I drive by, there should be some sort of forced recall.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford explore. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph the transmission failed. The over drive warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact then depressed the brake pedal and everything seized before stalling. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle functioned properly. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance because the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer 19
I was driving down TX hwy 190, and my o/d light started flashing on my 2003 Ford Explorer, it was found that the shift solenoid pack was going out, it was an electrical issue with the solenoids, the pack was replaced and now it is doing it again, ran the diagnostics on it and it is the exact same problem, the shift solenoid pack electrical problem on a solenoid pack that is barely a year old and the mileage is now at 201000.
Transmission Solenoid problem of the 2003 Ford Explorer 20
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Ford Explorer. While driving approximately 30 mph, the transmission began to slip gears in a jerking motion. There was also a hesitation and the engine revved continuously. In addition, the over drive and transmission warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The indicators remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was diagnosed by two different independent mechanics and they informed the sensor solenoid would need to be replaced and possibly the transmission. The vehicle was in the process of being taken to an authorized dealer for a third opinion. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000. The VIN was unavailable. Js.
